Document Summary
All tests require assumptions if turns out assumption is inaccurate, it can cause the test results to be incorrectly interpreted: relies on evidence. Verified -> multiple lines of evidence = consilience. Acceptance and rejection of an idea is related to the evidence. Inferences logical conclusions based on observable facts: involves the scientific community. Broad in scope and many hypotheses: supported by large body of evidence tested multiple ways, predictive power must fit observations not used in formulating the theory. Not enough for theories to fit observations that we already know. Must fit observations that we predict will occur. Intelligent design: we can observe the effects of intelligent design, not the designer (process, cannot be tested produces no predictions -> cannot test hypothesis. Low rate of oxygen, once buried in sentiment, fossil becomes replaced by dissolved minerals. Even if remains get decomposed after burial, can still get fossil.
