Starting to theorize about a global electronic age. Primary experts on media and what it means to live in an electronic age. Several key theories: global village (coined in 1960) Move from individualism and fragmentation to a collective identity, with a "tribal base" Electronic media will merge oral cultural so we"ll come to understand ourselves living in a global community. World is getting smaller, everything is more accessible. Talking more about tv back then but can relate to now, instant visual and audio connection. Time would cease to exist, space has vanished. We will extend our central nervous system in a global embrace, abolishing both space and time as far as our planet is concerned; technology is an extension of our body, and what is created affects our nervous system. I. e. being sexually harassed by an online avatar touching or interacting with yours. Receiving info through pattern recognition ; tags, icons, emoticons, symbolic languages.
