When a wow player wanted to create a lgbtq guild, wow shut it down. Why is this identity targeted: on the forum, they say the lgbtq players are making the whole game about sex. However, sexuality (hetero) has already been brought into the game (weddings in game). A top down construction of heteronormality exists here: male characters are super masculine and females are hyper sexualized, wow should be an ideal environment for marginalized groups because it is not the real world. In the game, people are told what heteronormativity is. No space for your own opinion: forums have been used to normalize offensive terms related to homophobia. A heteronormativity culture is constantly constructed within these forums: critical discourse analysis , digital worlds.
