Most societies have an interest in the past. Reconstruct and explain lifeway"s in the past from material evidence. Goal- study our changing biological and cultural diversity. Do this by exploring sites, can different forms. Digging is destruction, removing things, changing context. Sampling- usually do not excavate the entire site. Evidence/artifacts are recorded, labeled, photographed & mapped systematically. Excavation methods change depending on the site. Big moments in human prehistory (see text pg. ~ 4. 5 mya earliest evidence of bipedal hominids. Bipedal- walking on two feet (vs. four) ~ 200,000 ya- orgins and spread of modern humans, out of africa into parts of europe and parts of asia. October 12th (4:30)- reflection & submit final complete draft. Females tend to be shorter than males. Secondary sex characteristics- physical differences not directly related to reproduction (eg. male facial hair, female breasts, etc. ) Many societies have 3rd (or blended) genders. In other cultures, shifting gender roles is normal.
