Always thinking about relationship between the self and society. Every society is a collection of identities. Help individuals understand their own place in society and how to relate to others. Identities are not innate (we are not born being who we are, we learn how to be ourselves through the social landscapes we"re raised in. Take a test to determine if we are or are not canadian (citizenship test) 3 responsibilities of being a canadian citizen. Some argue that immigrants are somewhat more canadian than canadians (cause they pass the test) Inculturation socio-cultural forces and constitutions that teach us who we can and should be. Many forces at work that shape and impact our own identities. We can share a sense of identity to ppl you never met through what we watch/ read. North american personhood emphasized how everyone is unique and different from each other, be true to yourself. We are inculturated with his idea of being individual.
