Made up of district activities along the way. Firms profitability is a function of value customers see in products. Comprised of: primary activities: core business functions e. g. design, sourcing for components of the product, marketing, etc. support activities: support an org. in their day to day performance. Configuration is the worldwide distribution of value activities. A company has to decide what and how much of its value chain to move to foreign markets. Concentrated: performing all value chain activities in one location. Dispersed: performing different value chain activities in different locations. Coordination means linking together the various value chain activities to maximize efficiency and profits. Concepts of linking all value chain activities to become more efficient. Coordination by standardization: specifying how employees should do their jobs.
