Chapter 9 - building effective teams and teamwork - Teams: groups of people who are interdependent, interact with each other and see themselves as a unique entity. A team metaphor: abilities to lead a team, be an effective team member and to foster effective team processes. Possessing the ability to lead and manage teams and teamwork has become a commonplace requirement in most organizations. A reason for the escalation in the desirability of teamwork is that increasing amounts of data show improvements in productivity, quality, morale when teams are utilized. Firms that actively use teams, both organizational and individual effectiveness were above average and improving in virtually all categories of performance. There are several factors that are associated with high performance in teams which are: cutting staff costs, reducing errors. In order to function effectively, all teams progress through stages of development.
