The sho(cid:396)t- duration noise is referred to as impact or impulse noise, which has a duration of about 1 millisecond (continuous or impulse: loudness: the louder (volume) the noise, the more problems it can cause. Though the actual noise level may be well below acceptable standards and may not be measurable with a sound level meter, it is nonetheless very real and can cause stress and other possible non- auditory effects.
