Values
-Basic convictions that a specific mode of conduct or end-state of existence is personally
preferable to an opposite mode of conduct or end-state.
-Concepts or beliefs that guide how we make decisions about and evaluations of
behaviours & events.

-3. Differ based on culture and environment
-Values generally influence attitudes & behaviour.
Importance of Values
-Provide understanding of the attitudes, motivation, and behaviours of individuals and
cultures.
-Influence our perception of the world around us.
-Represent interpretations of “right” and “wrong.”
-Imply that some behaviours or outcomes are preferred over others.
-A good “fit” between the values of employees and their supervisors and organization
enhances job positive job attitudes and behaviours. ie., Individuals’ values determine
the meaning that work, their career and the organization has for them.
Rokeach Value Survey
-Terminal Values (What do I want to achieve?)
oPreferred end-states of existence; the goals that a person would like to achieve
during his or her lifetime
-Instrumental Values (How do I want to achieve it?)
oPreferable modes of conduct/behaviour or means of achieving one’s terminal
values.
