Document Summary

Social movement success depends on the access to scare resources. No social movement is likely to succeed without resources e. Rises or falls on its ability to attract resources. Outsiders can be an important as insiders in terms of success. Ex/ poor people are the movement but rich people who donate help them. Historical canadian strike activity increases when: union membership is high (social ties) ^ low unemployment happens when economy is strong and governments collect more taxes and are able to produce benefits. More likely to strike when economy is strong, because they have access to these. And government can make concession, its realistic, they are able to get. Political opportunism, social control or framing (frame alignment) Mobilization doesn"t occur in a vacuum (isolation) from political structure. Strike activity mentioned above ^^ hints at this. Something has to disrupt the status quo to create opportunities for social movements and for them to be successful.
