*sociology- the systematic study of human behavior in a social context. Sociological imagination- the quality of mind that enables one to see the connection between personal troubles and social structures. A process of rapid economic transformations that involved the large-scale application of science and technology to industrial processes, the creation of factories and the formation of a working class. The five traditional institutions: economy, family, politics, education, religion. Emile durkheim: end of 19th century, first sociology professor, considered as first modern sociologist, argued that human behavior is influenced by social facts or the relations in which people are embedded. Modern feminism-the modern feminist theory shares: patriarchy, power and social convention, micro and macro level focus, and gender inequality. *conducting research- the process of systematically observing reality to assess the validity if a theory. There are 6 steps: formulate question, review existing literature, select method, collect data, analyze data, report results. Research must be done in safety, privacy and confidentially.
