Sociological critique of race: race = social construct. Social construction: human beings actively create social life and social meanings. Vs. essentialism: attributing social constructs to biological or genetic causes ( = destiny) Biological determinism: idea that people"s dispositions, attitudes, behaviours, social roles and other personal qualities are determined by their biology: race = ambiguous term. Eugenics: socio-biological sciences predicated on racist ideologies that promote practices that are supposed to purify and improve the genetic pool of a particular population.
