Human capital: the abilities, skills, knowledge, and experience that an individual or a group of individuals possesses. Strati cation system: a consequence of collective judgements by which society (presumably people in general) evaluates the worthiness of a person"s occupational position with regard to its importance or its contribution to the collectivity . Two determinants of occupational ranking: differentialfunctional importance, differential scarcity of personnel. Chair of sociology (coll ge de france: not all highest ranked jobs get paid more. Economic capital: control over economic resources (money, land, bonds) Social capital: group based resources, social connections, and social networks (elite group of people- means lots of economic capital, allows you to have an advantage with connections) Dominant groups use symbols to exercise symbolic violence on minority groups through cultural and symbolic systems (e. g. race or gender). ________ capital: knowledge, skills, education, and aesthetic tastes.
