Document Summary
Lecture 2: wright mills, sociological imagination: a way of looking at the world that allows links between apparently private problems and important social issues. Women are now in the workforce, there are smaller families: what used to be a private issue (families caring for elders) has become a public social issue. This is a reflection from a shift between private concern to public issue. Many private issues are actually reflected in society. We need to think about this connection: sociological imagination or perspective enables us to grasp the connection between history and biography (mills). When we think about about people"s behaviours we cannot just think about here and now, we must think about the history and context too: develop a sociological perspective by changing one aspect of their life. Origins of sociology: emerged in the middle of 19th century with the use of the scientific method to test ideas, factors, industrial revolution: status of seniors declines in the industrial revolution.
