SE200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Main Source, Grand River Transit, Zipcar
Document Summary
Transportation is essential for members within the community to attain necessities such as food, medical care, and employment. It proliferates community involvement and can drastically contribute to an overall better quality of life. With areas that are geographically dispersed, like the waterloo region, the importance of transportation rises. This is due to the fact that there are many neighborhoods in which residents aren"t able to get to basic needs without some form of transportation that is beyond walking. We see historically that the region of waterloo has displayed strong interest in increasing affordable transportation for persons with low income. Through a study done by social services in the region of waterloo, we can make certain conclusions about the issue. Individuals who receive social assistance are high volume customers of the grt buses, they use the bus as their main source of transportation. In the study 77% people reported using the bus most of the time or always.
