Gentiles: a term applied by jews to designate non-jews. Not so simple, they are history and theology. Church writers do not agree on what the exact relationship was: john was aware of the other gospels and used them as sources - considered independent, none of the gospel writers are considered eye witnesses. Gospels written 40-60 years after jesus" death. Matthew and luke drew from mark but did not know the others text. Naming and dating the gospels: two kinds of evidence available too us internal (from gospels) and external (from material remains) Lukes theology is more developed than that of the other gospels. Paul on jesus: paul"s letters are the earliest dates christian documents we have 50-60 ce. Paul says very little about jesus at all.
