Emerged from creative arts therapy in which artistic methods were used alongside clinical therapy to help people cope with life challenges. Questioning assumptions and conventions of science and rationality. Making space for other ways of knowing and expression. Often used in conjunction with qualitative interview or focus group data. Often art is analyzed using thematic analysis, phenomenological analysis, narrative analysis, conceptual mapping. Often engages participants in the analytic process, bringing contributors together to create a collective interpretation of themes and results. Method used in participatory resarch to document and reflect participants" reality.
