PS379 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Twice Exceptional, Learning Disability, Asthma
Document Summary
Allocate services, accommodations and funding (do need labels to allocate services) Permanent (can be on your school record that you have a special need) Twice exceptional: gifted and have a learning disability (hard for teachers to know whether to treat them as gifted or having a special need) Person first wording: a child with autism, not an autistic child, acknowledge that it is a person with this trait, the trait doesn"t define who they are. Prevalence: total number or percentage of cases of a condition in population. Incidence: number of new cases identified over period of time. Record trends and discover reason for trends. Recently there is a higher incidence of autism than before. Usually invisible until you start interacting with them or hear them talk. Specially designed instruction to meet the needs of exceptional students. Prevent intervention (decrease the problems the student has)
