Identify what social psychology is and what it is not. Social psychology is defined as "the scientific field that seeks to understand the nature and causes of individual behaviour and thought in social situations. " (baron, byrne, & Due to the multiple elements that are made a part of social psychology there appear to be some lines blurring the difference between social psychology, personality psychology and sociology. It"s because social psychology looks upon an individual"s thoughts, behaviour, etc that are resulted from their social environment that allow it to be differentiated. Identify the two main research methods described in this course: for each method, identify the main features of the method (i. e. , when it is used, where it can be used) Experimental (does x cause y) and correlational (what is the relation between x and y) methods are the two main research methods covered in the course. Explain why causation cannot be proven in a correlational study.
