Document Summary

The more physically close we are to people the more likely we are to like them. This is because there is more opportunity for interaction. Mere exposure effect: the more we"re exposed to something the more we like it, unless the person is generally dislikeable. People report liking each other more when they met on the internet vs face to face. Evolutionary theory: cues for health and reproductive success. Some cross cultural standards of beauty, ex men typically prefer big eyes, big smile, small nose etc. However this has some truth to it because of self fulfilling prophecy. If we think others don"t like us bc we"re ugly or we think others are unlikeable bc they"re ugly, we/they will actually behave in ways that make them unlikeable. We are attracted to people that are like us, have same attitudes. This is bc we expect them to like us since we"re similar. We week social validation in their beliefs, feel understood.
