Need to know the sounds, words, sentences of language and principles of conversation (pragmatics) Knowing how to speak to whom: ex. child, loved one, stranger, employer, enemy, expert, etc. Phonemes: the smallest unit of sound, ex. langwejizbluduvsol. Morphemes/semantics: ex. language is blood of soul.
