PS102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, David Wechsler, Lewis Terman
Document Summary
Measure individual differences related to a psychological concept or construct. Intelligence tests measure general mental ability: aptitude tests measure potential for future learning, achievement tests measure how much someone knows(in classes/ability to remember and retrieve information at a later time) Personality tests measure various aspects of personality, including motives, interests, values and attitudes. Keys for good psychological tests: reliability, validity, standardization, reliability. Give same test to same group of people twice and correlate the scores. All of the items of the test should measure the same thing. Consistency of measurement when different people score the same test: validity. Do items on the test measure all knowledge that comprises the construct: criterion-related validity. How well does the test score predict criterion measures: standardization. Refers to designing the test so that your score will tell you how you did relative to the population if they had all taken the test under similar conditions.
