Document Summary

Axon: long thin iber, connecing the pre-synapic and post-synapic, transmits info, myelin sheath. Comprises gliacells (provide nourishment and remove waste) Serves as insulaion, allowing speed and protecion from other signals. Protects the axon from bumping into signals. Terminal butons: are atached to the dendrites of the post-synapic neurons so they can repeat. Resing potenial (the stable, negaive charge of a cell when inacive) ** cell membrane becomes permeable to allow + ions. All-or-none law (a neuron ires or it doesn"t) ** strength is conveyed by rate of iring of a neuron (quicker = stronger simulas) Neurons transmiing/receiving the signal: ap (action potential) allows the synaptic vesicle to release the neurotransmitter, if the neurotransmitter fits the receptor site, the message is passed to the post- synaptic neuron, if not then it gets reabsorbed (reuptake) Neural networks: paterns of neural networks = percepions, thoughts, behaviour, memory, increases in experience, increase in neural networks. Synapic pruning: eliminaion of less acive synapses.
