To seek out evidence that supports our hypotheses and deny, dismiss, or distort evidence that doesn"t -> confirmation bias (misconception, because of bias we make not make the most rational decision) To cling to our beliefs despite contrary evidence -> belief perseverance (doesn"t apply, not a big deal, you know it"s not right) Applied: examines how we can use basic research to solve real-world problems. What are the 4 goals: describe what , explain why , predict when , control/influence fully understand. Usually the 1st step in understanding behaviour or mental processes.
