PS101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Wilhelm Wundt, Blindsight, Edward B. Titchener
Document Summary
Ps101 - lecture 10 - learning and consciousness. Phobias are often learned through classical, but sustained through operant. *phobias: fear of something that you shouldn"t be afraid of. Cs snake + ucs traumatic car accident = cr conditioned fear response to snake. Avoid snakes + fear is reduced (reinforcement) = tendency to avoid snakes is increased. *these are different behaviours - the first is best handled through association, the second through operant conditioning. All kinds of things in the environment can come to have meaning and can be used to foster-stimulate arousal. These associations can be generated through classical conditioning. Moment to moment awareness of ourselves and environment. You can be in a place and not really aware, but we are not unconscious. Others cannot directly know our reality (and vice versa) Ex a sunset that is beautiful to one person can not be a big deal to another. No one can be aware of what you are experiencing.
