Canadian cultural policy: what is this, until 2006 concern about media consolidation, after 2006 concern about online streaming, role of protecting canadian culture vs. Infringement of consumer choice: cultural policy and nation-building. Nation-building and the west: canadian cultural policy dominated by central canadians / elites, western culture is different, different history. Policy analysis: from les pal, multidisciplinary inquiry to create and crucially assess as well as communicate information to understand and improve policy. It is systematic often scientific: types of analysis: normative, legal, logical, empirical. Policy analysis is different than evaluation: analysis often longer term / academic although often used to describe evaluation, evaluation part of the policy process, program evaluation, cost-benefit analysis.
