The world of the unconscious: freud and lacan. The first of eight children born to jewish galician parents: he was the favourite of his mother, his younger sister took piano lessons, he was a spoiled kid. Lived and worked in vienna until 1938, when he fled to the uk to escape the nazis. A practicing analyst and a prolific writer: all his theoretical readings came from his many, many patients. A self-confessed obsessive: he is border-line obsessive neurotic, he was very driven; very neat; very organized, he was a compulsive cigar smoker tried to quit several times. The eldest of three children born to a well-off and ardently catholic french family: his parents had a popular vinegar plant. Became an atheist in the 1920s: there are some traces of him being an athiest-catholic. Hobnobbed with breton, dali, picasso and the parisian avant-garde crowd in the 1930s-
