Why are the number of people with disabilities growing: people are getting older and acquire more disabilities (baby boom, puts a strain on family members, retirement homes (cost) Do(cid:374)"t forget a(cid:271)out di(cid:448)ersit(cid:455: stereotypical views wheelchair user, deaf, blind, variability in disability experience. Interaction of health conditions, personal factors, environmental factors: note: disability correlates with disadvantage, but not equal in terms of being disadvantaged, women with disabilities also experience gender discrimination. In schools, students with physical disability are better off than those with intellectual disability: those with mental health issues are more likely to be excluded from jobs than those with physical disability. Disability can be: congenital disability from birth, acquired become disabled later in life (ex. car accident quadriplegic)
