Document Summary

Warfare and general ship in the age of napoleon: the armies of the napoleonic war 2. There were two key events to the french revolution: the storming of the bastille on july 14. 1789 and the execution of king louis xvi on january 21 1793. The revolution led to the fall of the most powerful monarchy in europe, the creation of a radical republican government in france, and transformed european armies and warfare. 1793: leaders of france"s revolutionary government passed on emergency measure, all men were liable for military service between 18-25. 5 years later the law was made permanent. Conscription led to an increase in size of armies, took in as many able bodied men as possible, and made armies easy to replace. Before 1789 soldiers were expensive and now generals were willing to fight battles since armies could be replaced so easily.
