Socialist parties were the ones to be caught in a dilemma. They were going to go on strike but nationalism won out. Socialist parties vote in favour of the war and there were no strikes. The germans ended up on the english channel to the swiss border causing them to attack frontal. They start digging trenches and barbed wire. 4 years of stalemate of the western front. 1918 men start to wear proper uniforms and equipment for protection. Russians mobilized faster then expected and launched their own attack on germany. Austria-hungary defeated serbia with the help of serbia. Germany becomes the predominate country in the central palace. There are attempts to convince other countries to join in. Japan italy and romania join the allies. The ottoman empire and bulgaria join the central powers. Britain established a blockade (prevention of distribution of trades) Germans adopt the method of unrestricted submarines. They have to prepare for a war of attrition.
