Stressors are the cause; stress is the efect. Two types of stress based on percepion: eustress: posiive stress. Perceived as good potenial to result in posiive change. Geing married, staring a career, new home: distress: negaive stress. Perceived as bad potenial to result in negaive charge. Financial problems, illness, loss of a loved one. Body does no disinguish between eustress and distress. Physical signs and symptoms: sweaty palms, insomnia, overeaing, rapid breathing, shortness faigue, shaky speech. Cogniive and emoional signs and symptoms: decreased concentraion, thought disrupion, irritability, anxiety, depression, excitement, anger embarrassment. Stress: disease of prolonged arousal : cause the body to wear down over ime allostaic load . Early inding: highly stressed individuals: increased risk of cvd, increased suscepibility to colds.
