Ngo"s, also often act in self-interest, for reputation enhancement, or belief in. Regional organizations often mediate only where interests lie. Weak organizational interests can lead to inefficient or poor mediation. Spoilers: leaders and parties who believe the emerging peace threatens their complicates process peace power, world view, and interests and who use violence to determine attempts to achieve it. Conflict parties can"t assume impartiality from mediator: cost-benefit analysis for parties about likely role of mediator. Being partial to one or other side can help bring success of mediation: being partial can influence negotiation. Principled mediator may or may not be effective: mediators perceived as fair can help distrustful parties. Mediators stuck on principle can undermine peace. Time has to be ripe for mediation. Plateaus and precipices must be seen and seize by mediators, or created.
