Week 5: economics in the 20th century: capitalism and social welfare. Unprincipled state: a state that is controlled by a very small, elite group of people whose agenda is to use the power of government to serve itself. Military dictatorship: another form of an unprincipled state where a strongman commands the government and his power rests on his control of the military. The military"s power is coercive (violent and unelected). Principled state: the government tries to set out a set of ideals that constitute the political ideology of the state of government- does what"s best (usually) for the people. Aversion to change and a desire to conserve heritage. Has an organic view of society: society as a whole is more important than the individuals within it. They see a positive role for the state where the government is actively involved. Tend to be very patriotic and nationalistic to their country and its culture.
