Life in hobbesian state of nature , concluded that when you don"t live in community, no government, and no order life is, nasty, brutish, and rough . No global government to enforce rules, order: creates self-help system : power as currency of political life: competitive power politics as zero-sum game dominated by powerful states. The more power you have the less power i have. International cooperation as difficult, global governance as undesirable. International organizations as small players, dominated by powerful states. Cooperation: absolute, how much do i gain vs. relative gains, who gains more: realism blind sports. The global explosion of international trade: creation of a truly global economy that companies can operate on seamlessly is very difficult. Accounting for powerful supranational organizations such as the eu: realism has underemphasised and undervalued supranational organizations because they believe that states would not give up power: realisms continued relevance.
