Document Summary

Gg101 lecture 14 water and atmospheric moisture: water"s distribution on earth, unique properties of water, humidity, atmospheric stability, clouds and fog. Ice caps melting: distribution of earths water, water is dominant, we got water from comets that store water and accumulated on earth, trail of ice behind comet, water escaped in gas form. Unique properties of water: phase change, liquid, solid, vapor, heat properties of water in nature o high specific heat, latent heat, vaporization, condensation. Solid phase: water expands and becomes less dense when it freezes *ice cubes/bergs float. Liquid phase: assumes shape of container, non-compressible cannot make it smaller bound by structure. Vapor or gas phase: invisible, compressible gas, molecules move independently, condenses to form clouds or fog, average residence time in the troposphere about 10 days. Humidity: describes water vapor in the air, relative humidity, saturation, dew point.
