Document Summary

The wizard of oz notes: frank baum wanted to write an american fairy-tale. He started out telling stories to his children and then decided to publish one. He was influenced by alice in wonderland. Both the wizard of oz and alice in wonderland are about a little girl who is transported to a magical world and then returns home, apparently unchanged. What baum loved about alice was that she was always doing something. Alice goes through multiple size changes and the goal is to be the same size as the adults in. Wonderland; dorothy is the same size as the munchkins and they are adults. In alice in wonderland, the adults are similar to the adults in fairy-tales (they make alice do hard things) but in the wizard of oz, the adults are helpful to dorothy. Very important difference between the movie, the wizard of oz and the book in the movie.
