Class 11 (november 26th, 2018: three dimensions of identity. Identity as subjectivity: subject centered internalized. Inter-subjective notion of commonality (can be exclusionary) Identity is not a fixed or finalized state internal to the individuals. It is always constituted in relation to others both in terms of sameness and difference. Identity has the potential to unite but also divide: opener. Identify some qualities that make an ideal: software engineer at a robotics firm, smart, good with computers, analytical, pays attention to detail. Feminine: gendered work/activities, productive, knowledge, emotional/service, masculine/feminine performatives. Instead stresses the performative in relation to the representational we perform the discourse. Idea that it is mimetic not just a perception: mimesis. Idealized norm of conduct: tied together (normalization and conduct, girls" life and boy"s life magazine, not just a representation.
