Serial murder is one person committing multiple homicides. The lack of a standard definition has gotten in the way of research. They note that the lack of a definition makes it more difficult to know how common or prevalent it is. Law enforcements officials use that research to help improve the performance. If there is no deifinition this could result in over-inclusion or under- inclusion. Two or more forensically linked murders with or without a revealed intention of committing additional murder. The murders are committed as discrete events by the same person or ersons over a period of time. Internally motivated act murder spends a great deal of the time planning before it actually happening. Involves a premeditated, 3 or more victims over time in separate times. All offenders who premeditate kill 3 or more victims over a period of days, months or years.
