Denunciation- judges make a public statement of what the offender did that was wrong. General deterrence- message don"t do it or you"ll get caught: specific deterrence- person standing infront of the judge. No matter the offenders race, gender, class, etc. Jail should be the last resort: people may not learn anything. Retribution- personal philosophy (tough on crime approach: an eye for an eye, making sure that the punishment fits the crime, restorative- can the sentence help someone. Concurrent: all sentences are to be served at the same time. Consecutive: sentences that run separately and are completed one after the other. Intermittent: sentences that are served on a part-time basis, generally on weekends.
