Most performance appraisals that form the basis for administrative decisions take place once a year. Ideally, performance feedback would be given by the supervisor immediately after effective or ineffective job behavior was observed. When the performance appraisal is intended for employee development, feedback sessions on a monthly, quarterly, or at least twice-yearly basis is typical. Identifying and developing specific individuals within the organization who are seen as having high potential. Future stars, consistent stars, and current stars may be targeted for specific developmental opportunities including work assignments, educational opportunities, or inclusion in events or mentoring activities. Performance improvement plan is an effective way of giving employees struggling to meet performance standards the opportunity to succeed, while holding them accountable for past performance. Document employee"s current performance and areas for improvement o develop and action plan. Develop an action plan for improvement, containing specific goals o review the performance improvement plan.
