BU288 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Timeshare, Dispositional Attribution, Stereotype
Document Summary
The process of interpreting the messages of our senses to provide order and meaning to the environment. People base their actions on the interpretation of reality that their perceptual system provides, rather than on reality itself. The end point is meaning; our actions always depend on our perception of reality. The professor showed the class numerous images that are hard to interpret: ex. Some people see the vase first, others see the 2 faces first. Emphasized the fact that all individuals have their own perceptions, some see one thing, while others see something else: but no one is wrong. Motivation: some people were really motivated to look for something. Emotional: the mood depends on what they see: so if they"re sad, they"re going to see the sad side of the picture first, if they"re happy, etc. In many ways, we see what we want to see as individuals.
