Effective leadership exerts influence in a way that achieves organizational goals. Strategic leadership is open and honest in their interactions with the organization"s stakeholders and they focus on the future. Three of big 5s are related to leadership aoe. Traits associated with effective leadership intelligence, energy, self-confidence, dominance, motivation to lead, emotional stability, honesty and integrity. Does not tell us what leaders do to influence others. Traits alone is not sufficient for successful leadership. Two basic kinds of leadership behaviour: consideration, approachability personal concern + respect for employees, considerate friendly, appreciative, support, more related to follower satisfaction, motivation and leader effectiveness, when methods/goals are clear, this promotes satisfaction. Initiating structure: clearly defines/organizes roles, stresses procedure, assigns employees to tasks, more related to leader job performance and group performance, when methods and goals are clear, this promotes dissatisfaction. Leader reward behavior provides employees with compliments, gifts, benefits. Leader punishment behaviour uses unfavorable task assignment, and withholding of raises, promotions, etc.
