Hexapoda are named for the presence of six legs which are all uniramous. Have three body segments (tagmata)- head, thorax, and abdomen. Appendages attach to head and thorax while abdominal appendages may be greatly reduced or totally absent. Entognatha -small group with the bases of mouthparts enclosed within the head capsule. Insecta- enormous class that have ectognathous mouthparts, but bases of mouthparts lie outside the head capsule. Tiny, eyeless, inhabit soil or dark, damp places. Tiny, inhabit soil, decaying pant matter, or freshwater pond surfaces, and along the sea shore. Entomology the study of insects: there are numerous variations in body form, walking sticks are long and slender on branches while cockroaches are lat so as to live in crevices. Usually 2 pairs of wings, in the thoracic region. Exoskeleton composed of complex plates, or sclerites, connected by lexible hinge joints with muscles attaching to the sclerites that allow for precise movement.
