Document Summary

Lesson 5: newton"s universe and physics of heat. Isaac newton was born 11 months after galileo died. Galileo studied the nature of motion and the accelerated motion of falling bodies. Quiet child that studied mathematics and physics. Plague swept through england closing colleges in 1665 so newton spend time back home in woolsthorpe thinking and studying: studied optics, developed three laws of motion, probed the nature of gravity, and invented calculus. Speed is the rate at which an object moves where total distance moved divided by the total time taken to move that distance. Velocity specifies both speed an direction of an object and can change when speed changes, direct changes, and both speed and direction changes. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity with time where the change in velocity divided by the time taken for the change to occur: speeding up is acceleration and slowing down is negative acceleration or deceleration.
