Rome was a very adaptable civilization: it was not afraid to adopt, manipulate, and exploit a variety of customs, religious beliefs, & artistic traditions. Study of art and archaeology aims to better understand human behaviour in the past: we will focus on the elite and poor individuals alike (there was really not a middle class at all)
