500bc: human beings need to think for themselves and not rely on the gods. How the sun works= helios god of the sun that brings light into the world: fear of upsetting the gods, power- how things are structured. Well the gods determine the status of the people: wrong for people to want to be something they"re not, ex. Farmer can"t be anything else but a farmer: fate/destiny- something you can"t escape or change, scientific, atheism, agnosticism, get rids of god"s being the centre of the world and reason for everything, doubt, questions are the key. They start to ask difficult questions and people struggle with finding a suitable answer: pre-socratics. Looking at the true explanations of reality. All of reality is governed by natural laws . They are universal, do not change, remain the same: progress and change. Understanding that nature is governed by these nature laws.
