(seen as exciting film content and reliable filmgoers) 1950s and 1980s cited as important dates in the history of teen film. Rebel without a cause trailer defying authority, youth are positioned as problems that are a danger to themselves and others. Nicknamed j. d (juvenile delinquents, or james dean) Criticisms teen years as transitory, to be enjoyed and celebrated. (j. d. films do the opposite)
