Picture plane the actual flat surface on which the artist executes the pictorial not ie, present vs. past paintings image. Pictorial image could be compared to a window in which a three-dimensional space appears to exist. The flat surface is a picture plane. Some artists are very conscious of the flat surface of the picture, whereas other are. Difference between the left and the right, but both sides still look very similar.
