Macro/grand theories: social systems are a major thing to look at. Family, two person relationships: these support bigger structures and influence social actions. Social action theory: all social theories have weber"s influence, parsons believes that action is biological and social, major unit of analysis of sociology is social act, just like any other biological organism. Eg running again: shoes, training, family structure to support, nutritious food, body structure, physical structures like weather, biological structures. Need to be put in place to achieve. Relocate with your job if it moves, find other employment in the same area, or retrain in another field: actors must work within the social system (rules) Also think of work structures, work within hierarchy structures. For structural functionalism, meritocracy is important: obey the rules, work hard, example; goal- getting an honour"s degree. You are the motivated actor who has this goal.
