Criminology is an interdisciplinary profession built around the scienti c study of crime and criminal behaviour, including their form, causes, legal assets, prevention, and control (13). Crime can be de ned in di erent ways / di erent perspectives: legalistic, political, sociological, psychological. Deviant behaviour is human activity that violates social norms. All crimes are considered deviant to at least some people but not all deviance would be considered crime: power. Some forms of deviance are not criminal: examples: tattoos, piercings, dyed hair. Criminologists: trained in the eld of criminology (recall de nition, studies crime, criminals, and criminal behaviour, research is published in academic journals (see page 11) Criminalist: specialist in the collection and examination of the physical evidence, forensic le, etc. Criminal justice professionals: those who work day to day in (with) the criminal justice system, there are many people involved in the criminal justice system. Social policy: government initiates, programs or plans intended to address problems in society.
